Here's a thread to share figure makers. Timpo released a set of fantasy knights, I think in the 60's? really nice figures, still stand up today and they are still pretty easy to find. So probably the easiest and most affordable fantasy toy soldier types are from Tehnolog. They have lots of the typical warhammer/ lotr figures on ebay, reasonable shipping, reasonable quality. I have modified a few of them as I find them quite hefty. Here's a converted elf Plastic skeletons are another easy to buy figure. An ebay search will find them. Also avaliable on amazon. They come in around 54mm, are in a good base colour and it's an affordable way to amass ALOT of troops quickly. I just bought a bunch with a view to do some reposing. There are a handful of multi-piece figures from Macfarlane toys for Game of thrones are in scale. What's everyone else found?

Depending upon what you are looking for D&D plastics from WizKids, Deep Cuts, Wizards of the Coast or Pathfinder(Paizo) can work. Examples: insect swarms and giant spiders, or similar, which are over-sized in 28mm still work for 54-60mm. Reaper Miniatures has many useful things. For example, they have a 6-legged Bloodwolf which almost exactly fits the description of a Tekumel critter. The only issue being that, in 28mm scale, it is too large. In 54mm, however, it is sized exactly right. Similarly, they have a giant wolf figure that works fine as a wolf. Safari "Good Luck Minis" might also be a source of small critters. You find them for a $1 in craft, toy or game stores typically on a display by or near the cash. They had a 6-legged Chinese Luck Dragon which is also great for Tekumel. They also have things like crabs (to annoy your shipwrecked characters) and bumblebees. I bought a dozen and the guy threw in a free bee. (His joke!) They have various "toobs" of Cave Dwellers, Cambrian Creatures and Deep Sea Dwellers, all of which are excellent source of bugs and vicious looking fish. I was buying them for 28mm but they work even better for 54mm. eBay is a good place to look for inexpensive stuff similar to Safari: There are lots of sellers in China with very cheap or free shipping. It is possibly to get 3D models printed at larger sizes but the price goes up dramatically as the volume increases. This is because it uses more material, more space in the print area and takes a longer time. I sell 3D printed Tekumel figures made by a guy in the USA. I asked if he could up-scale some to 54mm scale, which is typically just increasing the size by a certain percentage. He advised me that he would have to charge a multiple of 7.2 to the original cost. Many of them only cost a dollar to print, but now cost me $7.20 each. The largest critters would be very expensive and some might not br printable in their current form as they exceed the print area. For example, I have giant wasps with and without saddles, and one even with a rider. David can print them all-in-one: wings, legs, etc. all in one piece. The price to upscale to a 54mm ride-able wasp is pretty steep. The current versions are just fine as plain old giant wasps, they just don't look big enough to mount a 54mm human. Though maybe that is a subjective view; some might say that no wasp of any size could fly with a human mounted on it! Howard

Love that converted elf/ranger jhonpog!
And one would be remiss not to name the Fantasy Toy Soldiers blog here, as he's done yeoman's work identifying all the various makers and sources for 54mm fantasy figures (though many he mentions are sadly OOP):

The Mordheim Cultists from LOTR and POTC sets. The photo is a bit dark - I will improve and put it and some WIP shots in a separate thread.

Poor old Jedi has lost his light saber? But these shots show how cross-overs can work really well.

Lashed out on a Japanese resin piece (£18GBP) from eBay (will post link when I can find it!) because I just couldn't resist it! Must be from a video game? He/it is a giant at 75mm but that's fine as he's a monster. Photo on its way. Not really a source for general use but OK for the one-off special.

Poor old Jedi has lost his light saber? But these shots show how cross-overs can work really well. ha ha yeah he does work in a fantasy setting but I mainly use him to check scale. He is 54mm to the top of his head and a good heft: works well with 1/32nd and 1/30th scale. So if I get a figure or a bit of terrain I'll drag this guy out to see how it compares look forward to seeing that beast from japan
