Wow , what a splendid find. I always liked Rackham figures but never owned any. They were excellent sculpts.

Definitely worth a trip to Poundland if you are looking for fantasy terrain. In their summer garden range currently they have some lovely whimsical fairy garden pieces. I picked up two houses which are a great scale for a village or hamlet. Also picked up some scatter terrain for a forest encampment, spotty mushrooms and some set piece things like a fountain or magic portals. Attachments:

On my charity shop run I picked up a bag of bugs and creatures to serve as crawling horrors for my games. I’m going to base and repaint most of them. A glowing green tentacular Cthulhu style starfish will work a treat! Baby wyrm is cute. I might fashion a flight stand from paper clips for the dragonfly. Undecided on the dinosaur, turtle and lemur if I will use them. In with the beasts was the strange sword with reptilian fin. Definitely going in my bits box! In another shop I came across a lovely elephant for £3. It seems to be some kind of hollow casting. Unfortunately the tusks were gone (hopefully not made from ivory) but I’m going to fashion new ones from paper clips and putty. But first to get rid of the horrible integrated display base. I plan to craft a howdah and have some card ready for the job. Attachments:

The paper clip flight stand idea for the dragonfly worked well. Super glue and miliput on the base, and super glue and green stuff for a stronger bond on the body. For the elephant I twisted and cut two paper clips to the right length and shape to form an armature for the tusks. Next I filled the empty sockets on the body with hot glue and inserted the paper clips. After adjusting the angle of the armatures I let it set. When the bond was very strong I carefully corrected the armature angles and then added green stuff to build up the tusks and add texture.

Lots of gnome and fairyland stuff at American Dollar Tree stores as well. Wish I hadn't read that. Every time I come to this forum, I end up going out and spending money!

I made some progress on my orc war elephant. I constructed a howdah with a cardboard frame, covered with lollipop sticks cut roughly to size. Next I cut and glued on some jewellery chain, then hot glued the howdah over the top, securing it with some putty underneath. When it was all dry I primed it. Looking forward to painting it up!

A few days ago I received a very generous package from Alan with a host of Techlog figures. Today I based and primed them. Thanks Alan! I also began my conversion project of the Tintin boat. Tintin and Captain Haddock lost their heads. These were replaced with goblin heads from GW. Then they had putty cloaks added. I used paper clips to fashion some temporary stands so I could complete the sculpting. One goblin will return to the boat with a cannon added, to form a gunboat. I filled in the holes on the boat and the glass bottom with putty and carved some planks into it. The other goblin will now ride a dragonfly I had previously primed but not painted. I’m going to use the little disc as a shield.

Got some fun bits finished off today. First up, the goblin was glued onto the dragonfly and had his shield attached. Next I assembled the goblin gunboat and painted it up. He sits arms folded, proud of the havoc his little cannon has created! Finally I finished up my war elephant with howdah. I did a dark wash over the grey base and it came out really well I feel. I really need to start clearing down my to paint pile. I base and prime but then get busy on a new purchase or conversion and never get them on the table!

I completed painting of my star spawn. I started with a dark green, then painted on fluorescent green ichor and finished up with a green wash. I finally had a little solo game using some of my terrain and my new band of knights, supported by some billmen and bowmen. I used a 2d6 against armour class hodge podge of rules, with movement and range by grid and advantage/disadvantage on rolls for strong combatants or targets in cover etc. The knights foolishly made camp on a small hilltop, and their campfires drew in a band of orcs, with a 25% chance of another appearing each turn. To win the knights needed to drive off their attackers and not have the earl die. They seemed to be doing well but the orc chief felled almost all of the billmen and the earl’s bodyguards and forced a morale check, which the knights failed, leading to surrender. I don’t have any pictures of the game in progress as my orcs are half painted! I’ll show them off when they are.

On my charity shop run I found this toy house which is a good scale for 54mm. I hacked out the weird lozenge shape surround that runs along the base of the house, masked behind the doorway and hole with cardboard, then filled with putty. Into the putty I carved a wooden door and added a handle. After drying and sanding I painted it up!
