Hi all. Thought I’d start documenting my adventures here. Over time I’ll add to the thread as I work on projects and post new photos. I have a backlog of images, but I thought I’d start with the most recent things. This week I made a trip to The Toy Project and found a few 54mm scale toys and figures suitable for my games. The Toy Project is an amazing charity shop in North London packed to the brim with toys, especially figurines. Proceeds go towards supporting under-privileged children. I purchased a small host of figures. Two look to be Boxer Rebellion, but please correct me if I’m wrong on the period. I’m a newbie to 54mm manufacturers. One was missing a weapon so I kitted him out with a small spear when I got home. I also picked up a Gormiti figure with a lovely Cthulhu style head that I knew I could make look great with a repaint. Hidden away behind the counter was a bashed up Del Prado soldier that needed some filling where there was a missing shield and a strip and repaint. min the Disney section I found the witch from Snow White. Most of the hard plastic Disney figures seem to run to around 70-80mm, but the shrunken, crooked witch is just the right size for my games. In an old sweet shop jar I found a large collection of Boglings, which come in a single colour rubbery plastic. I thought I could spruce them up as some swamp dwelling denizens.

The paint job on the Boglings came out great. I thought I would have to prime them first, but the paint adhered like a dream. They are suitably disgusting now. I did some minimal touch up of scratches on the witch, and painted the red apple a mysterious blue. Now it represents a globe of power or some other magical artifact, and you can see her commanding the Boglings with it.

Here you can see the completed witch, Boglings and Cthulhu swamp monster. I painted up the two men but unfortunately I ran out of the correctly sized base so they are on a temporary base until I can order some in.

Some older pieces now. The two headed Schleich snakes and wolf boy came from The Toy Project. The flying raptor is a repainted Poundland dinosaur. Finally, the ghostly wraiths are some weird Greek-style figures that came in a bag of knights. I coated them in several layers of PVA and kitchen towel, then painted them.

Here are the aforementioned knights, painted up and in action during a solo game. The dining table was out of action so the living room floor became the field of battle! If I remember correctly, the invaders passed through the fields and across the bridge into the village ruins. Although they never successfully forded the river elsewhere, they held the line at the bank while the main force wore the defenders down and drove them out.

Really enjoyed reading about your figures and games. The Toy Project sounds a fascinating and productive source.

Excellent stuff - keep it coming. It is always good to see what others are achieving whilst the dust gathers on my workbench... The 2 'Boxer Uprising' figures are new to me - I was expecting Armies In Plastic, as they are AFAIK the only company ever to make any in 54mm plastic. No idea what make they are or what they are meant to be - though they do look oriental.

Thanks everyone. I have more figures arriving soon. SCS Direct Fantasy, and two lots of skeletons, one set with pirates and some terrain too.

The winged skeletons arrived today. They were coated in a very goopy, sticky paint and covered in dirt, so I used some acetone in a brief wash to strip them back so I can prime and paint from fresh. I also took the opportunity to strip my wolf boy as he had gone sticky too.

Not sure if that helps identify them or the maker. They don’t have any marks on the base or even a country of origin.

A correction to my post about the BU figures - OWN did a very nice set too. But they are 'finer' than your figures. Are you a subscriber to Plastic Warrior ( plasticwarrioreditor.blogspot.com/ and highly recommended to plastic figure fans)if so, why not send the photos in to see if any of the experts can ID them - I'd love to know more about them.

Gave my SCS Direct fantasy minis, Italeri knights and the skeleton and pirate play set a wash ready for priming. With the pirate play set came some other Chap Mei pirate action figures which are around 95mm foot to eye. I didn’t plan to keep them, but one fellow caught my eye as a possible giant: He looked just a bit too nautical as a giant for me, so I cut off the anchor, sash and bandana knot, and trimmed the bandana so it looks more like a beanie. He now looks more like a giant that has outgrown his clothes. The rope now serves for tying up victims for the cooking pot. I glued a blob of hot glue into his hand to serve as a throwing stone. Finally I glued the articulation points to stop anything moving and spoiling the incoming paint job.

Almost finished with my giant. Two coats of brush on primer to get ready for the new paint job: And then onto the painting: All that remains is gloss and basing.
